Basilica st. Egidius in Bardejov - Slovakia

Church of St. Egidius is three-ship basilica from the beginning of the 15th Century. It was created by the reconstruction of the older object from the 14th Century.
During the fire and earthquake in 1725, the tower collapsed and was repaired. Another fire in 1878 was the reason for entire reconstruction of the object.
The most valuable part of the interior of the dome is the unique collection of eleven winged altars from 1460 - 1520, which today are almost in the original layout.
The main altar of St. Egidius is neo-Gothic wardrobe-style, four winged and from 1878. The interior is completed with several altar pictures, Gothic pastoforium and font, Gothic sculpture from 1479 - 85 in a triumphant arch, benches, headstones, which still rank amongst the valuable contents of the church interior.
The church exterior contains preserved Gothic paintings from the 16th Century showing the figures of St Christopher and three Ungrian patrons - St. Stefan, Ladislav and Imrich.
On 4 January 2001, Pope John Paul II gave his personal approval for promotion of the Church of St. Egidius to become a smaller basilica.
