Cave Driny - Slovakia

The only accessible cave in western Slovakia. There is no underground spring in the cave, therefore we will not find wide underground areas there. However, they are adorned with rich sinter decorations. The richest dripstone ornaments were created in the adjoining tunnels of the cave.
The specifics of the cave are jagged ornaments, which were created in the cave due to alteration between dry and wet periods. The cave is most active and lively in the spring when the snow is melting on the surface and the water seeps into the cave.
In the drier areas, there are bats which mainly fly in from November until March. To date, from 8 species of bats, the dominant species are
lesser horseshoe bat and common bat.

Position and access to the cave Smolenice village, circa 20 km north west of Trnava.
Parking is 1km south west of Smolnice, next to the Jahodnik recreation centre. The distance of the cave from the car park is circa 1km via the forest path, at an altitude of 100m, it takes circa 20min. Entry to the Driny Cave is at an altitude of 399 m.
