Short info Above the valley of the River Poprad, there is a majestic fortress - Lubovniansky Castle, whose establishment took place at the beginning of the 14th Century. The history of the castle was written by significant aristocratic Ungrian families (Omodej, Drugeth) and Polish (Kmit, Lubomírsky and Zamoyski). Polish trustees of this part of the Spis region were here for more than 350 years. The castle was visited by Polish kings (Vladislav II. Jagiellovsky, Jan Albrecht, Jan Kazimir, Jan Sobieski) and Ungrian kings (Maria and Zigmund of Luxembourg).
From 1655 - 1661 there were Polish coronation jewels hidden in the castle. In 1768, the famous adventurer Móric Beňovský was imprisoned in the castle. Thanks to the regulation of Maria Theresia in 1772, during the first division of Poland, ownership of the castle ended. In the 19th Century, the castle was owned by the Raisz family and between the 19th and 20th Centuries, it was owned by the Zamoysky family.
The most valuable object is the castle tower which is accessible to visitors following its renovation. In the Baroque palace, historic furniture is presented and there is also an exhibition of crafts and guilds of the Zamoysky family.
