Lupciansky castle at Banska Bystrica
Slovenska Lupca

A still preserved and occupied castle, built in the first half of the 13th Century in the valley of the River Hron above the village of the same name close to Banska Bystrica.

It was a king's property and Ungrian emperors used to visit which castle with numerous guests, often mainly during the hunting season.

This castle from the 13th Century, built by Bello IV, was damaged by an earthquake in 1443. At one time, it was the property of Matej Korvin.

In the castle courtyard, there is a massive linden tree and people say that Matej Korvin used to sit under this. In the 15th-16th Century, the castle was rebuilt into a chateau. From 1873 - 1938, the castle was an orphanage.
