The Museum of Special Education in Levoca is a branch of the Bratislava Museum of Special Education and Pedagology in Slovakia. The basis of its collections became so-called Gano's Library (V.Gano, 1893-1966, pioneer of special pedagology in Slovakia), completed by other documents and exhibits.
The Museum is situated in a renowned building in the historical core of Levoca Old Town, reconstructed in 1982-1988. It is a Levoca townhouse from the end of the 15th Century with well preserved Renaissance elements from the period around 1550. The present state is from reconstruction from the second half of the 19th Century.
A permanent exhibition - the history of special education in Slovakia - was opened in 1990 and shows the historical development of this topic in Slovakia.
Amongst the most interesting exhibits are special pedagogical tools, working means and the results of work of the pupils of special schools.
