Sculptural symposium - Vysne Ruzbachy - Slovakia

Short info
Rudolf Uher, Miroslav Chlupac and Andrej Rudavsky, and the idea of connecting art and nature, were the founders of the symposium of sculptors in Vysne Ruzbachy. In 1964, in the Ruzbachy travertine quarry, they created the first sculptures and one year later, the first official symposium took place.
Since then, annual meetings of sculptors in the quarry has taken place so they can materialise their ideas in stone. The challenge for the artist was the possibility of so-called "taille directe" - implementation directly in the material and the possibility to address the particular environment, or allow it to address them - express its fundamentals in connection with the rhythm of the terrain and the entire character of the surrounding countryside.
Over 26 years, a unique gallery of 104 stone sculptures from artists from 14 countries, was created in the area of the quarry and its immediate surroundings.
The area of International Sculptor's Symposium in Vysne Ruzbachy was named as a Cultural Site by the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic on 1.7.1997.
