Was gradually built since the 13th Century by German colonials and formed a strongly fortified section. The fortification alone was built during the reign of Matej I in 1480-1510, the entrance gate and tower with barbican were finished in 1512. On the southern side, there is a former gate with a drawbridge. There are visible remains of the fortification walls with openings above the gate - place for the protectors of the walls.
In the castle district, there are sites in a late-Gothic building style, such as Church of the Ascension of Virgin Mary, Church of the Holy Cross, Matej's House, Mining Tower and Scholar's Tower, Pretorium and Barbican .
Today, the northern part of the castle walls with towers behind the Slovak Church and original entrance with the tower and barbican remain from the castle fortifications. The entrance consists of an outer courtyard and tower gate with the remains of the drawbridge mechanism. The entrance to the barbican contained two stone portals. On the right, there isPeterman's Tower, named after the townsman who possible financed its building. It is a guard tower with an old, originally large, bell, made in the 15th Century. Smaller parts of the castle buildings with a courtyard called 'Barbican', neighbours this tower.
