The preserved site of folk architecture is part of the town of Ruzomberok and is situated under the Velka Fatra mountains - Sidorovo mountain.
The village of Vlkolinec is the most preserved site of folk architecture in Slovakia. This wooden village was the first preserved site and, in 1993, was listed in the list of UNESCO World Natural and Cultural Heritage..
The first written note is from 1376, when Vlkolinec was established as a woodcutter's village, or colliers. As the only village in Slovakia, it is not yet disturbed by new buildings and is situated on its original site.
This remarkable architectural site consists of 45 original buildings - wooden houses and neighbouring functional buildings are a preserved picture of a unique, Slovak mountain village.
The village is situated close to the main route from Ruzomberok to Banska Bystrica and it is therefore a suitable stop and a good spot to relax during your journey.
