The history of healing springs is connected also with building a monastery, which has been devoted to St. John Baptist, patron of healing waters. First records of utilization of healing springs come from the 12th century from time of building the monastery, and some sources even state that healing springs were used especially by the old and the ill in this period, who were taken care of by Benedictine order and nuns. A large interest in the spa has occurred again in the 19th century, and Lázně Teplice belonged to the most visited spa in the whole Europe. The Austrian emperor Ferdinand V., Russian tsar Mikuláš, Prussian king Bedřich Vilém III., princes, barons have all visited the spa.
The most powerful men, diplomats, politicians, kings have met here and the spa was also used for congresses of rulers. Apart from the noble company, significant visitors included also artists such as Goethe, Chopin or Beethoven, after whom the spa house Lázeňský dom was named, whose services you can use today.
Healing springs are currently used for diseases of movement apparatus, nervous and circulation systems. The most used treatment procedures include thermal spa, hydrotherapy, oxygen therapy or mud compresses, which utilize the natural riches.
