|  Budapest One of the biggest spa towns in the world, Budapest, the centre of Hungarian life, place, in which two million people are centred. The spa was established in Budapest with arrival of Turks, who used the potential of thermal springs and started to gradually build a spa town. Budapest has thirty thermal springs, what is probably the biggest number in the world. There are around 130 springs in Hungary. Springs have unbelievable healing effects and people from around the world come here not only in search of relax, but primarily in search of treatment. That is also the reason why Budapest is nicknamed the Mecca of Rheumatics.
People have been coming to this area for treatment already two thousands years ago, because springs had healing effects on various diseases. Healers of the time have discovered healthy effects of the water and send their patients from various corners of the country to the are of current Budapest springs.

Walking through History In the different segmented countryside of woods, fields, meadows, mountains, hills, lakes, rivers and plains, harmonically fit Hungarian villages and towns. Near Austrian border at foot of Alps lies Sopron, a holiday resort known with its excellent red whine. Medieval and Baroque protected burger's houses, palaces, museums and churches in the historical town kernel are living witnesses of Hungarian history. The thousand years old Pannonhalma with a monastery, up-to-now with Benedictine monks is a part of world cultural heritage.
Pearls of Danube's bend: medieval royal town Esztergom, which cathedral is up to this day the center of Hungarian catholics. Visegrád is very visited because of the panoramatic view from the castle fortress, and in the vicinity of the capital city located town Szentendre with almost Mediterranean atmosphere, the town of painters, museums and cathedrals.
An extraordinary experience offers Székesfehérvár in the north-east with the aboriginal Hungarian settlement and during 5 centuries crown and burying town of Hungarian kings. It is worth to visit the three most beautiful and largest chateus: as Hngarian Versailles known Eszterházy chateu in Fertőd, Festetics chateu in Keszthely near Balaton and the Baroque chateu of Grassalkovich family in Gödöllő, the residence of relaxation of the emperor and king Ferencz Jozsef I.
The Balaton's peninsula Tihany with its abbey, grounded in 1055, is rich of sights.
The cultural center of the south part of the Great Hungarian plain is the town Szeged, located at the Tisza river. Annually are held summer music festivals on the Cathedral square, which are wisited by a couple of thousands of people. Noteworthy in the National historical park in Ópusztaszer is a panoramatic painting showing the life of Hungarians 1,100 years ago. Mecca of Hungarian reformation is Debrecen, known by its cathedral, university and also by healing spas in Nagyerdő.
The town-center of Kecskemét with Art Nouveau palace Cifra, town hall, museum of toys and music institute of Zoltán Kodály belongs to the romantics. Peach-schnapps, produced in the neighbourhood, is a popular "medicine".
The protected woody mountain area of northern Hungary is a paradise of sightseers, the historical towns here have an unique atmosphere. In a beautiful valley between mountains of Matra and Bükk is located the town Eger, known by its historical sights from Baroque, impressive medieval castle, cultural festivals and flaming whine. The gate into the Tokaj whine region is the small town Szerenc with a renovated renaissance castle of Rákóczi family, today a hotel complex and at the same time a museum with the third biggest collection of postcards on the world.
