Mountain municipality Donovaly is situated northwards from Banská Bystrica in the altitude 960 metres between Veľká Fatra and Starohorské vrchy mountains. The municipality is formed by Donovaly itself and 7 other villages: Sliačany, Hanesy, Mišúty, Mistríky, Polianka, Bully and Močiar. There is an important ski centre in the municipality. Sled dog competition is held here each year since 1992.
