The spa town of Piestany, with its symbol of the Statue of a man breaking the crutch, offers the possibility for its guests to heal rheumatic diseases, locomotion diseases or post-accident conditions.
It is assumed that the curative springs of Piestany were discovered by the Roman soldiers almost two thousand years ago. The hydrosulphide thermal water springs from tectonic breaches from a depth of about 2000 m. Its temperature on spring is 67 - 69°C.
The unique local phenomenon is the spontaneous regenerating resource of curative mud as a product of the interaction of the Vah river arm biotop, mineral water, which flows into the river for ages, and sediments of the riverbed.
This mud is used for partial and whole-body wraps, which have curative effects on inflammatory diseases unique in Europe, and probably in the whole world.
The cultural life of the town offers different festivals, appearances of different folklore groups, exhibitions and a rich offer of theater and music appearances.

Culture and Entertainment in Piestany Spa
Spa's Social Centre located in the North part of the Spa river-island organises various cultural, entertainmnet and educational activities for guests during whole year. It offers cultural events of all genres, various exhibitions, facultative trips to local architectural, historical and natural sights.
Whole year-round cultural events are on schedule in Piestany's House of Art, which offers exquisite musical and theatrical performances, symphonic and chamber concerts, recitals, operas, operettas and musicals, drama and ballet performances of both Slovak and world's musical and literary output. Social Centre person provides tickets for any of the House of Art events.
In the summer the atmosphere of Piestany is filled with music. The Spa resounds with open-air concerts, sunday matinees offering brisk marches by brass bands or stylish and nostalgic Strauss and Chopin waltzes performed by string orchestras. Each year, June and July are the months when the Piestany Music Festival is on schedule. The most beautiful pieces of music are performed by internationally recognised performers.
Spa's travel agency Balnea Tour, which has its place in hotel Balnea Esplanade serves guests with its offer of facultative trips to locations where you will experience the traditional Slovak folk art, architecture, way of life of locals in the past and in present, all this set in picturesque natural surrounding.
