The municipality is situated in the eastern part of the district, in Handlovská basin, on the road I/50, leading from Prievidza through Handlová to Zvolen. It neighbours on the west the municipality Jalovec, in the east city Handlová. The southern part of the municipality is situated on the outposts of the Vtáčnik mountains, the northern part climbs on Žiar slopes. River Handlovka flows through the municipality, which is the left-sided inflow of the Nitra river.
