The first note about Strbske Pleso was in year 1664 in the geographical work of David Frohlich. In 1719 the scientist Georgius Bucholtz senior, documented Strbske Pleso.
The development of Strbske Pleso began as with the whole High Tatras region with the Kosice - Bohumin railway through Poprad in 1871. The establishment of spa dates back to 1877. At that time Count Jozef Szentivanyi presented the first curative balneological procedures in the local accomodation. In 1885 Strbske Pleso was noted as a balneal town.
Over the decades Strbske Pleso served more as tourism than treatment. Treatment was offered during the summer season in the presence of a doctor. After the First World War the exibition building was used for treatment military convalescents. Hotel services were offered in the magazine Informator from 1926 in Hviezdoslav grandhotel, in hotel Krivan and in villas "Janosik", "Detva", "Jiskra" (the current hotel Solisko) and "Maryna".
The meaning of Strbske Pleso encreases after Second World War. The buildings were once more used for treatment of military convalesscents, later for tuberculoses treatment and since the 50th for treatment of unspecified respiratory illnesses, thanks to a very reputable doctor Jan Pullman, the husband of a poet Masa Halamova. The complex of centre Hviezdoslav (Krivan, Hviezdoslav, Janosik) was used for treatment of adults since the Second World War. The hotel Solisko came into existence by renaming the villa of "Jan Jiskra from Brandys". It served after war for treatment of youth, later as a children's curative house.
In 1995 - 1997 the hotel Solisko was reconstructed and shortly after the reconstruction it was awarded by four top international awards. It was opened on 4th July 1994. Solisko offers facillities and services for the most demanding clients.
