Žilina is regional and district city situated on the confluence of rivers Váh, Kysuca and Rajčanka. With regard to the number of inhabitants, it is the fourth biggest city in Slovakia. It is an administrative, economical and cultural centre of the north-western Slovakia. The historical centre of Žilina is a town monument reservation. The centre of the city is formed by the Mariánske námestie square with arcades along the whole perimeter and two adjacent streets. There is a Church of Saint Paul the Apostle with Jesuit convent, old building of the city council with bell play and baroque statue of the Virgin Mary (Immaculata) from the year 1738, which stands in the middle of the square.
