The name of the village Podčetrtek is connected to a story, when people went to the local market only each Thursday. Therefore Podčetrtek, Thursday, was a significant day for merchants and local inhabitants and the name quickly domesticated also in the minds of foreigners. The market place was built in front of the castle, which has been completely reconstructed in the 17th century, later in the 18th century it was adjusted to the prevailing baroque style. The castle was partially reconstructed after destructive earthquake of 1945, but you can visit under the castle the preserved baroque church of St. Lorenzo with unique fresco paintings directly in the interior.
