Lymphatic Draining

Lymphatic draining is a highly specific method, during which the therapist, using a series of gentle stroking pressure and other manual techniques facilitates the faster return of venous liquids into the treated extremity.
The procedure results in the evacuation of capillary vessels followed by an influx of arterial blood (suction principle), with the most important impact - a better lymphatic draining.
Better circulation and improved evacuation of lymph from the extremity results in smaller oedema and the subsequent reduction of chronic and lymphatic swellings, as well as better blood supply and nutrition.
The method is used mainly for the treatment and prevention of chronic lymphoedemas of upper and lower extremities (e.g. after the mastectomy). Inseparable part of this procedure is the follow up bandage of the extremity and its positioning.
The lymphatic draining can be performed also using such equipment as pneumatic vacuum massage device (using the suction principle induced through uninterrupted negative pressure), or overpressure massage device (using the principle of interrupted overpressure in an inflatable pneumatic splint), or a combined vacuum/overpressure massage device (using the principle of alternating negative pressure and overpressure in a special cylinder inside the device).
Indications: lymphatic swellings of upper or lower limbs, combined disorders of blood circulation
Counter-indications: bleeding, opened skin injuries
It is classified as a non-standard, specially covered treatment intervention. The procedure shall be mostly prescribed by the doctor, but some places it is also available as free-to-buy procedure.
