Therapeutic/remedial gymnastics
It is carried out individually or in a group of patients with the same type of disease.
The exercise is supervised by a physiotherapist. It is targeted upon the maintenance or renewal of motoric functions as well as for development of functional motoric adaptation of the organism.
These are mainly special exercise of individual affected parts of the body, training in basic movements if those parts were affected by the disease or injury, damage to the functions of bones, muscles, joints and the nervous system.
Passive exercise, positioning, stretching whilst hanging or traction, or other special methods are mainly used for weakened muscles, stiff joints or other disorders. Also, exercise using visualisation, active muscle contraction, active movement with assistance, free active movement or free active resistance exercises are used.
An important part of the procedure is conditioning exercises, gym, training in correct breathing, correct posture, correct seated and standing positions, walking and correct movement during common activities.
In the final phase, the intensity of exercise decreases, relaxation and stretching exercises for muscles are used.
Healing gymnastics uses a whole range special methods targeted depending upon the indications (for example, Kenny's analytical gymnastics, Kabat's nerve-muscle facilitation, Mensendieckova’s exercise of correct motoric coordination, Klapp’s or Fay’s crawling, Vojt’s reflex crawling and locomotion or the Bobath's facilitation of motoric patterns).
The duration of the procedure is circa 20 minutes; the procedure must be prescribed by a doctor.
