It uses electrical energy of high-frequency currents which are converted into mechanical and thermal energies. Ultrasound is a longitude mechanical oscillation with the frequency of 0.75-3 MHz and with intensity up to maximum 3 W/cm2. The basic application form is a continual or pulse application. The contact between the head of the apparatus and the tissue always has to be done by a contact medium (paraffin oil or conductive gel). There are also natural application heads.
