
Mountain municipality Donovaly is situated northwards from Banská Bystrica in the altitude 960 metres between Veľká Fatra and Starohorské vrchy mountains. The municipality is formed by Donovaly itself and 7 other villages: Sliačany, Hanesy, Mišúty, Mistríky, Polianka, Bully and Močiar. There is an important ski centre in the municipality. Sled dog competition is held here each year since 1992. Donovaly lies on the border between Nízke Tatry and Veľká Fatra mountains. The highest point above it is Zvolen (1402 m.n.m.), next to Donovaly is Nová Hoľa (1386m.n.m.), where also a cable funicular goes.
