For this reason there are several types of cooling compressors available on the market. Most often they are cryo–packs, containing the pearl cellulose, which is cooled down to -18°C and it still keeps well shapeable consistency. The similar effect could be achieved with also gel cryo-pack (hydrated silicates), similarly cooled down to -18°C. The local application of cold will induce firstly vasoconstriction, leading to the inhibition of muscle spasms and muscle hypertone, mitigation of pain, improved mobility, and at the same time to slower progression of nerve impulses, mitigation of inflammation and stimulation of immune response with anti-inflammatory effect. There is at the same time a better conduction of heat from deeper layers as well as convection of heat through the blood vessels. It is very important that after each cryotherapy administration there is an active motorics-oriented therapy (active exercise), which strongly supports an active vasodilatation. In addition to this the exercise is easier for the patient (inhibited muscle spasms and pain). Indications are wide – fresh-posttraumatic states, active inflammation of joints, mitigation of spastic conditions in neurology, painful diseases of spine with paravertebr-al spasms, or individual treatment with curative gymnastics. The procedure is contraindicated in case of disorders of arterial blood supply, allergy to cold and other forms of cold intolerance. The procedure has to be prescribed by a doctor, which shall determine the location, number of cryo – packs and application time.
